Eminent Domain Reform Measures

The LPC Executive Committee has passed a motion "that the LPC direct its members and county parties to support the signature gathering efforts of both the 'California Eminent Domain Limitations Act' (aka People's Initiative) and the 'Protect Our Homes Act' (aka Anderson Initiative) during the month of April."

You can go to http://www.limiteminentdomain.org/ to download and print petitions for the People's Initiative. The Anderson Initiative language is longer, and signature-gathering is being done primarily by paid circulators, so they don't offer downloadable petitions. Their web site is http://www.protectourhomes2006.com/, and you can try emailing or phoning them to request petitions. You can certainly sign their petitions in front of many busy superstores and malls.

Both initiative measures are trying to collect the requisite number of signatures by the end of April, in order to appear on the November election ballot. If they miss that deadline, they can continue collecting signatures for another month or two, but then they'd have to wait for the 2008 primary election.
